Due to political instability in the past few years, Burmese nationals have been able to legally or Illegally enter Thailand. As Thailand is not a signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention, there are no laws to give legal status to the rights available to refugees.
Among those who entered Mae Sot without legal status, M-Fund card can be made for health care services. The M-FUND is a low-cost health protection scheme for migrants in Thailand, created to empower this underserved population to self-establish sustainable access to quality healthcare services. M-FUND members contribute a low monthly premium of 130 Thai baht (~US$3.6) per person (base plan), which covers access to broad quality health care services in a network of partner hospitals and clinics along the Thai border provinces. Benefits available to M-Fund; Monthly payment and entitlements based on health status are: for healthy member (130 THB), for children under18 of migrant schools (100THB), 50+years old (330THB), for those chronic health condition (330THB) and then from the moment the member completes 30Days the benefits will start, and in terms of the amount of money, if you have to go hospital or clinic, 5,000 baht per year, if you are hospitalized as an inpatient, you can use up to 45,000 baht per year.
Members who have not used medical service under M-Fund coverage for 12 consecutive months will receive a one-month free-of-charge renewal. In the NGO-Pregnancy plan, which is only conducted in Myawady and Tak District, you can pay 3,000 baht pay installments from the beginning of pregnancy until born. Under pregnancy option or NGO-Pregnancy option, newborns are covered until their discharge from the hospital, or up to reaching the ceiling from their mother.There are many hospitals and clinics connected to M-Fund in Thailand, and the hospitals/clinics connected in Tak District are as follows.
